During my research, I came across some interesting finds and thought I'd share this one.
This document was found in a desk. What a treasure. It's from the first school board annual meetings in the area. It's written in French, and
says that for the year of 1907, they are hiring a teacher for 10 months,
with a salary of $75/month.
This is a pic of the school/convent with church and rectory in the background. |
What interesting gems did you com across during your research or cleaning?

That is awesome. Love the old pictures.
I don't do much historical research with my stories being YA contemporary. Sometimes the interesting things have been more on the medical/behavioral side. How to slit your wrists correctly, for instance. (Correctly meaning that you really want to die)
Another I did, which wasn't YA, was to research women strippers. The long-term physical and psychological effects of having such a job.
Interesting find. I like old photographs.
It's always so fascinating to find things like this. I did quite a lot of research for Notes on a Rebellion, looking into the meaning of names and Arthurian legend. Time goes by very quickly when we're delving into this stuff but it's very enjoyable.
Very cool! Have you read Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children yet? Great use of old photos to inspire and illustrate an unusual story.

I don't do a lot of historical research. And when I Google for things I need to know for my stories, well... I find a LOT of things I don't need to know. There's just so much information out there, and I can be too easily distracted. :-)
Your photos are way cool! What a find. The old postcard reminds me of letters my daughter and I found while rooting around in the old farmhouse attic. They were my grandma's; she was born in 1885. Have you ever seen Doc Hollywood? The part where he reads the letters to a family that can't read. The news in them really was like that. :-)
